August 2nd For something a little more formal, Jen welcomes Julie Fox and Sari Stevens from The Utah Dressage Society. Founded in 1969 by a small group of dressage enthusiasts, Utah Dressage is an affiliate of the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) and exists to educate, promote, encourage, and inspire its members and the general public through programs, publications, and competitions, in a way that enhances the image of dressage and promotes the welfare of the horse.


July SHOWS

July 26th Jen welcomes back Utah State University's Scott McKendrick to discuss the ins and outs of hoof care -- especially for foals. Questions like when to shoe, when to cut, how to choose a horse, where to get your hay and how often to see a ferrier in the foals first year is answered on this edition of Horse Talk with Jen.


July 19th Charms pet project, Mountain Horse Medical, is well underway. July 12th Is that stream working yet?

Well, we're working on it. But this week, Jen has West Coast artist Cherry Sweig, phone number 858-748-9494, to talk about her work in an open-air-studio. With works ranging from equine to seascape, she spent time in 2006 with horses in their own habitat ... to study and paint them 'plein-air' and commit every detail she could to memory. She discovered that each of their personalities were quite individual and that their history might play a significant artistic role. From there, she made three artworks, her first statement in the HORSE ART exhibition in aid of the Skyros horse.

June 28th I know ... what happened to all the other shows? They're coming baby ... they're coming.

This week, we have someone with a life changing story. Ky Evan Mortensen joins us to share a truly great tale in his book, 'Horses of the Storm.' It tells the story of largest equine rescue ever. Horses of the Storm is a collection of grippingand ultimately inspiringfirst-hand accounts of how the Louisiana State Universitys Equine Rescue Team spearheaded a dedicated group of heroic staff and volunteers that saved hundreds of horses. In addition, Horses of the Storm will also contain a take-away of tips to prepare horse owners before, during, and after a disaster. Let's thank Amazon for that description :)


June 14th It's the Birthday Show!!

Every year the stars and line and the Gemeni smile down and grace us with the birthdays of Jen, Charm, and Spotted Eagle of the Lakota Tribe, Sioux Nation. On such a momentous occasion, Spotted Eagle has agreed to bring his flute into studio and play. It will certainly be a show to remember.


June 7th Not every horse wins a race. The question is, what happens to the losers? A number of these would be champs find their way to places like Proud Spirit Horse Sanctuary. Run by Melanie Sue Bowles, Proud Spirit began with just one horse in need on only five acres of land in rural Florida. It has evolved into a 320 acre, award-winning facility in Mena, Arkansas. Since its modest beginning in Florida, over 150 abused, neglected and unwanted horses have come to live out their lives in peace and dignity at Proud Spirit Sanctuary.

It is a lifetime commitment to each horse to survives on the kindness of donations and volunteers. See a YouTube video of their work here.

MAY SHOWS

May 31st ESPN and ABC correspondent, Ray Paullick joins Jen and Dr Wright and gives us the inside scoop on the TB racing industry. Mr Paullick is liked and disliked, throughout the racing industry, for he is known for telling it like it is. Former editor and chief of The Bloodhorse, America's premier TB racing magazine, Mr Paullick has spent a lifetime covering this sport. With two of the triple crown races down, we will see what he thinks about the Belmont and the state of the racing industry.

May 24th Horse Talk celebrates Memorial Day in the best way we know how.... A fifth show in our series covering EAP or Equine Assisted Psychotherapy for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Our most popular series, we are joined by EAP specialist Laurie Sullivan Sakaeda. EAP is one of the most effective way to treat people affected by PTSD and their families. With statistics showing 1 out of 3 returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans will be afflicted with some variance of this disease, horses, once again are saving our soldiers.

May 10th - After the tragic event following the Kentucky Derby, Jen brings in some of the biggest names in the equine health community to tell the truth about what is being done to protect these magnificent animals. With Jen is Dr. Charm Wright and Dr. Sam Hendricks of Mountain Horse Medical, Dr. Rick Redden of the Podiatry from the Equine Podiatry Center in Kentucky, Dr. Mark Markel of the of the Comparative Orthopedic research lab School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Wisconsin â Madison, and Dr. Wayne McIlwraith, director of the Equine Orthopaedic Research Center at Colorado State University.

APRIL SHOWS

April 26th - For the second time, Lisa Norman and Craig Haythorn of the legendary Haythorn Ranch join Jen and Dr. Wright to discuss the beautiful coffee table book and the legacy that brought it to be. Lisa Norman is the artist and author of this amazing portrait collection, having been inspired to create it by the land she and her husband signed on to caretake. Craig Haythorn is one of the five generations that make up the Haythorn ranching dynasty that is such an iconic part of our American heritage. Pick up the March edition of Western Horseman magazine for a taste of what you will hear this Sat.

April 19th - Dr. Frank Ascione joins Jen and Dr Wright to discuss his research on the link between animal abuse and domestic violence. Most of the state animal cruelty laws, nationwide, are based on his findings. Widely respected as the best in his field, Dr Ascione is based out of Utah State University with his work having an international impact. He is the author of Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Animal Abuse: Linking the Circles of, and Children and Animals: Exploring the Roots of Kindness and Cruelty.

April 12th - CEO and founder of Ariat and Ariat Internatation, Beth Cross, joins Jen and Dr Wright to discuss what it’s like to be Beth Cross. How does a person go about revolutionizing an industry steadfast in thousands of years of tradition? What does it take to rise above the nay-sayers and become an industry powerhouse. MARCH SHOWS

March 22th - The one and only Ezra Cooley is back for an update. Ezra is attempting to be the first person to ride around the world. He and his horses, Red and Stryker, started in Chico California, roped the Merrell Lynch Bull in New York City and are now making their way into Texas. Ez always has some pretty amazing stories. A true American Cowboy, Ez is riding to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network. After riding into TX, he will rest the horses for a bit with a lay up outside Dallas. Ez is trying to convince Jen to come down for a little dancing at world famous honky tonk, Billy Bob's. (What do you think?) (And yes ladies, he is still single, only problem is you have to be able to outride him and his horse Red.)

March 15th - David Martosko, Director of Research for the Center for Consumer Freedom, joins Jen and Charm to uncover the inner workings and truths behind the largest animal rights group in America - the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS.) And it doesn't have anything to do with local shelters that actually help animals. But, just as he's testified before Congress, Mr. Martosko will clarify what the lobbying goliath really does with your hard earned donations.

The Center for Consumer Freedom is a nonprofit coalition of restaurants, food companies, and consumers working together to promote personal responsibility and protect consumer choices.

March 1st - The innovative ... dare say revolutionary ... work of the Dr. Ric Redden is on display today. Founder of the The Laminitis Symposium in 1987, Dr. Redden has been on the cusp of truly groundbreaking work in the field of equine podiatry radiography, hoof care, amputation and prosthetics. Should your horse suffers a seeming life threatening leg inury, this is the guy to see. If there is a way for your equine to survive, to thrive even, he will find it.

Feb 23rd - Dave Howell, Pres of the American Horse Councils State Advisory Committee, and Dr Patrica Evan, Dir. of the University of Utah's Equine Programs, join me to cover the unwanted horse issue gripping our nation.

Feb 9th - Women in Horses - A Health and Happiness Seminar - A new annual event. Sat. Feb. 23 at the Kentucky Horse Park (home of the 2010 World Equestrian Games) from 8:30am to 4pm, will host an incredible seminar with a spectacular line up. Authors, jockeys, trainers and managers will be speaking on life changing and healing topics. This is a women helping women format. Tracy Walker of the KY horse park will be joining us this sat. to discuss this upcoming event. Feb 2nd - We decided to do a show on three of our favorite things.... Rudyard Kipling, camels and Horses. A little known fact about Dr Wright is, as well as being one of the top equine vets, she is THE leading authority on camels in the U.S. She has camel clients all over the world including Jamaica. She has been kind enough to rope Jen in on her camelid adventures from training two bactrian camels to raising an alpaca. One of the questions frequently asked is why? The other is what is the difference between a camel and a horses. This show covers those questions and more from a scientific, training and literary aspect.
